A long time natural history enthusiast, I have worked in nature-based tourism and as a guidebook and wildlife book author and freelance journalist focusing on certain Afro-tropical countries, in particular Madagascar since 1992. This gave me the opportunity to work closely with some highly regarded and inspiring NGOs such as DWCT, TRAFFIC and Missouri Botanical Garden, whose work I have had the privilege to promote.
When illegal logging became extremely problematic in Madagascar I combined forces with friends in various NGOs around the globe, as well as a network within the media (print and internet), and together we carried out a prolonged and ongoing campaign against the illegal logging which is adversely affecting the protected areas and biodiversity of Madagascar - as it is elsewhere in the world where China is the main buyer of illegally sourced timber.
