Briefing Note on: ASEAN Criteria and Indicators for Legality of Timber


The ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry adopted on 27 June 2009 the ASEAN Criteria and Indicators for Legality of Timber as a regional reference framework for legality of timber in ASEAN Member States. The meeting also adopted the ASEAN Guideline on Phased Approaches to Forest Certification, of which the Criteria and Indicators for Legality of Timber are part. On 10 November 2009, the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry in their 31 Meeting endorsed both documents. This briefing note gives the background to the agreements, and presents the details of the ASEAN criteria and indicators for timber legality.
